The fourth edition of the Summer Course of Latin Language and Roman and Christian Culture took place in Rome from July 6th to July 31st , 2017.
 
The course is organized by the Faculty of Classics of the Salesian Pontifical University in cooperation with the Center for Latin Studies “Latinitas Sinica” of Beijing Foreign Studies University. The course was inaugurated by the greetings of the President of the University, Prof Mauro Mantovani.

24 students attended the 4-week course: 20 Chinese students; international students on the other hand were from Tanzania, India, Malaysia, and Congo.

ara pacisChinese students came from some of the most prestigious academic institutions in China: Beijing Foreign Studies University, the Graduate School of the Academy of Social Sciences, Beijing Normal University, Shanghai Fudan University, China Agriculture University, Northeast Normal University, Tianjin University of Sport, Yunnan Minzu University, Xi’an Catholic Seminary. Among them there were also participants from Tel Aviv University (Israel), The University of Edinburgh (UK) and from Bryn Mawr College (USA).

The teachers of the course were Professor Miran Sajovic, Dean of the Faculty of Classics of the Salesian University, Professor Michele Ferrero, teacher of Classics at BFSU and director of the Center for Latin Studies “Latinitas Sinica” of Beijing Foreign Studies University, Ms Constance Cheung, postgraduate student of the Faculty of Classics of the Salesian University.

corso estivo 05Guest teachers were invited to enrich the course with their expertise: Prof Mantovani (Medieval Philosophy); Prof Fusco (Art History of Vatican Museums); Prof Pasqualetti (Media and Communications); Prof Bracchi (the Origin of Indo-European Languages), Prof Pavanetto (Latin Language as a Living Language), Prof Bacci (Latin Music), and Prof Marin (Ancient Christian Art of Middle Age).

The course included both classroom instructions (six hours per day), and guided tours every Tuesday and Thursday to the most famous Roman historical sites: Colosseum, St Peter’s Square, Sistine Chapel, Spanish Square, Catacombs so on and forth.

For Sundays, excursions were also organized to Florence and to a Medieval town - Assisi.
